The purpose of the Anne’s College Academy of Scholars (AoS) program is to recognize the achievements and expertise of successful research faculty, and to draw upon their expertise to enhance the overall research profile of the College and cultivate a collaborative community of scholars. For 2025-2026, five outstanding Academy of Scholars members were chosen based on their record of research productivity and the type of research support they will provide to their colleagues.

Dr. Whyte will discuss issues such as what types of studies are eligible for exempted, expedited, or full Committee review, what counts as an ‘intervention,’ what characteristics must a study have (or not have) for it to be classified as a ‘clinical trial,’ how faculty mentors can support ethical practice in student research, and many other topics relevant to both new and seasoned investigators across the College’s health, human, and social sciences.

Interdisciplinary and Multidisciplinary Research Roundtables

Session 1: Disciplinary and methodological traditions in social science research

  • Date & Time: October, 2025
  • Location: In-person (Stone Building)
  • Activity Leaders: Dr. Lama Jaber & Ayesha Khurshid
  • Description: This initiative will bring together faculty from different disciplinary and methodological backgrounds within social science to explore what academic research and writing processes in different traditions look like. Dr. Jaber and Dr. Khurshid will use different prompts to explore the development of the focus and questions for research projects, data access/generation/collection/management processes, data analysis, researcher and participants’ voices, and writing processes as shaped by different qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods designs within different disciplines. The aim of these sessions is to create generative spaces to explore the opportunities and tensions involved in collaborative research that involves partners from different disciplinary and methodological backgrounds. In addition, these sessions aim to foster our collective understanding of, engagement with, and evaluation of research processes shaped by different disciplinary and methodological traditions within social science research.

session 2: advancing interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research across fields

  • Date & Time: March, 2026
  • Location: In-person (Stone Building)
  • Activity Leaders: Dr. Ravinder Nagpal, Dr. Lama Jaber, & Dr. Ayesha Khurshid
  • Description: Building on the first roundtable, this session invites faculty across diverse fields at Anne’s College to explore strategies for integrating interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches into research. Discussions will focus on collaboration opportunities and avenues across different methods and disciplines to enhance the relevance, rigor, and impact of scholarly work.
Workshop on Longitudinal Growth Modeling: Identifying Key Determinants of Individual Differences Over Time

Date & Time: November, 2025

Location: Online or Hybrid (The Zoom link will be provided via the RSVP confirmation email)

Activity Leader: Dr. Qian (Jackie) Zhang

Description: Growth modeling addresses fundamental questions about how psychological constructs evolve over time while allowing researchers to examine inter-individual differences in developmental trajectories. When exploring why individuals differ in their longitudinal growth trajectories, researchers often manually select covariates. With many potential individual covariates, it would be challenging to select appropriate ones without theoretical guidance. This workshop will introduce growth modeling and methods to automatically select covariates to reduce researcher degrees of freedom.

Putting Together an Idea into Grant Applications

Date and Time: January, 2026

Location: In-person (Stone Building)

Activity Leaders: Dr. Ravinder Nagpal & Dr. Amy Kim

Description: This workshop guides the process of turning novel research ideas into competitive grant proposals for different funding mechanisms including federal, state, commodity, industry, and foundation grant opportunities. Topics include framing research questions, designing novel research strategies and hypotheses, potential research outcomes and broader impact, aligning with funding priorities, structuring key proposal components, and implementing interdisciplinary collaborative strategies, while working with the Anne’s College Office of Research on these projects.

Facilitated Dialogue: Doing Relational and Community-Centered Research

Date and Time: February, 2026

Location: TBD

Activity Leaders: Dr. Ayesha Khurshid & Dr. Lama Jaber

Description: In this workshop, Dr. Khurshid and Dr. Jaber will examine what building and sustaining research partnerships with communities rooted in reciprocity, care, and mutual learning look like. These sessions will include examples from their collaborative work with different communities and will offer practical strategies ranging from the issues of access to and consent of the communities, building relationships with community collaborators, designing collaborative data collection strategies, etc. for faculty interested in participatory research. Based on the availability and willingness of the community members that Dr. Khurshid and Dr. Jaber are currently working with, these sessions could include their presentations of the experiences of co-designing and co-implementing collaborative research.

Date & Time: Recurring

Location: In-person or Online (The Zoom link will be provided by the AoS member)

Click here to Register

Activity Leaders: Dr. Lama Jaber, Dr. Ayesha Khurshid & Dr. Ravinder Nagpal

Description: Special issues for peer-reviewed journals are meant to be generative spaces to expand disciplinary/methodological boundaries to initiative and/or contribute to debates critical to an academic field. It also provides an opportunity for researchers from different perspectives to engage in a dialogue to explore a potentially new direction for the field. These potential advancements, however, are shaped by institutional demands, goal setting, and balancing academic work schedules. Through individual consultations, AoS members will share insights from their experiences editing special issues in research journals. These sessions will support faculty interested in curating thematic issues, with practical guidance on framing, collaboration, advertising, and peer-review management.
