Distinguished Alumni Awards
The Distinguished Alumni Award is selected by a panel of alumni, retired faculty, and College staff to represent diverse accomplishments and celebrate the breadth of experiences possible with a degree from Florida State University.
Nomination Requirements
- All nominees must have graduated from the Florida State University College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences.
- Nominators can complete their nomination online or by mail.
- Nominators should be prepared to submit the following information:
- Names and contact information of both nominating and nominated persons
- Statement of nomination of 150 words or less that explains why the nominator feels the person is a qualified candidate
- Current curriculum vita or resume of nominee
- Three references and their contact information
- At least one letter of recommendation from one of the references
- Any documentation further supporting nominee’s accomplishments and qualifications for the award (other letters of recommendation, announcement of other recognitions, news articles, etc.)
- All nomination materials must be received by December 31, 2024. Any application material sent after that time will not be considered.
Nominate a Distinguished Alumnus
Trailblazer Award
Originally known as the Graduate of the Last Decade (GOLD) Award, the Trailblazer Award was established in 2015 to recognize alumni who have graduated in the last 10 years and who have had significant impact within their profession, contributed to their community, and show promise of continued success. They may be challenging the norms of their profession or outperforming their peers through hard work and determination. All must show promise of continued success and uphold the ideals of Florida State University.
Nomination Requirements
- All nominees must have graduated from the Florida State University College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences in the last 10 years.
- Nominees must demonstrate significant impact in their field or community through teaching, leadership, research, professional growth, or community outreach.
- Nominees should have received recognition as an emerging leader within their field or community.
- Nominators can complete their nomination online or by mail.
- Self-nominations will not be accepted.
- Nominators should be prepared to submit the following information:
- Names and contact information of both nominating and nominated persons
- Statement of nomination of 150 words or less that explains why the nominator feels the person is a qualified candidate
- Current curriculum vita or resume of nominee
- At least one letter of recommendation from someone other than the nominator
- Any documentation further supporting nominee’s accomplishments and qualifications for the award (other letters of recommendation, announcement of other recognitions, news articles, etc.)
- All nomination materials must be received by December 31, 2024. Any application material sent after that time will not be considered.

Past Award Recipients
Awards Dinner
The College hosts an alumni awards dinner and celebration each year. As part of this momentous celebration, in front of family, friends, Distinguished Alumni Award recipients are honored by the College’s Dean, faculty, and fellow alumni.
Selection Process
Award recipients are selected by an esteemed committee of college alumni. When the selection process is complete, nominees and nominators are notified of the results. Once all award recipients are contacted, the results will be posted online.
