The Anne Spencer Daves College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences recently honored its 2026 master’s and doctoral graduates from the Higher Education program during the annual Dr. Melvene Draheim Hardee Hooding Ceremony held on April 30.
Hosted by the Hardee Center for Leadership and Ethics in Higher Education, the hooding ceremony is a longstanding tradition celebrating academic achievement, leadership, and the enduring legacy of Dr. Melvene Hardee, a pioneering educator whose influence continues through the LifeNet community of higher education professionals.

This year’s keynote address was delivered by Anne's College higher education program alumnus Jame'l Hodges, vice president of student success and engagement at Edward Waters University. Reflecting on his own experience as a first-generation college student and former Hardee scholar, Hodges spoke about the transformative impact of mentorship, service, and community throughout his higher education journey. He encouraged graduates to lead with integrity, compassion, and purpose as they enter a profession that demands courage, innovation, and an unwavering commitment to students. Hodges also emphasized the lasting strength of the LifeNet community and challenged graduates to continue expanding Dr. Hardee’s legacy through the lives and communities they will impact.
The ceremony also recognized several outstanding students and mentors for their contributions to the Higher Education program and broader community:

- Peer Leadership Award: Katelyn Feldkirchner
- Dr. Barbara Mann Award: Esa Henderson
- Mentorship Award: Dr. Brandon Bowden
- Carrie G. Hall Scholarship Award: Kyra D. Freeman
