Dr. Marangelie Velez is an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Department of Educational Psychology and Learning Systems at Florida State University. She earned her Ph.D. in Counselor Education from the University of Central Florida in 2025, following an M.A. in Marriage, Couple, and Family Therapy in 2020.

Her scholarly interests include social isolation, belonging, and hope among first-generation Latinx college students, reflecting a student-centered commitment to supporting their success in higher education.

While teaching CACREP-aligned graduate counseling courses, mentoring emerging counselors, and supporting departmental initiatives, she regularly presents at national and regional conferences and contributes to scholarship on counselor development, supervision, and outcome research. Dr. Velez is a National Certified Counselor with over five years of clinical experience working with couples, children, adolescents, and families in nonprofit and private practice settings. She is an active member of the American Counseling Association, the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision, and the Southern Association for Counselor Education and Supervision.

As an educator, clinician, and researcher, she integrates theory and practice to enhance counselor preparation, prioritizes mentorship to support emerging professionals, and contributes to the advancement of the counseling field through teaching, scholarship, and service.
