Dr. Shannon LaPoint is an Assistant Professor of Special Education in the School of Teacher Education at Florida State University. Her research focuses on promoting success and overall quality of life in Autistic adolescents and adults. Specifically, Dr. LaPoint conducts research on 1) the supports that school professionals provide transition-age autistic youth in preparation for adulthood, 2) the experiences of autistic adults in a variety of post-secondary contexts (employment, higher education), and 3) interventions designed for educators and employers to provide high quality support and services to Autistic people.
Prior to joining the faculty at FSU, Dr. LaPoint earned a bachelor's degree in Psychology at Union College, a master’s degree in Applied Developmental and Educational Psychology at Boston College, and Ph.D. in Teaching, Curriculum, and Society at Boston College. She also completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the TEACCH Autism Program, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
