Michelle Parvatiyar, associate professor in the Department of Health, Nutrition, and Food Sciences at Anne’s College, has been named a Fellow of the American Heart Association (AHA).
Officially awarded in fall 2025, the honorific designation recognizes significant scientific contributions and sustained service in support of the AHA’s mission to improve cardiovascular health and support longer and healthier lives.
“Being named a Fellow of the American Heart Association is both an honor and a responsibility,” Parvatiyar said. “It motivates me to continue contributing high-quality research, mentoring the next generation of scientists, and engaging in service that advances cardiovascular health at the local, national, and international levels while proudly representing Florida State University.”
The honor supports Parvatiyar’s ongoing research into how diet, metabolic dysfunction, and inflammation influence cardiovascular physiology, helping connect scientific discovery to prevention and treatment strategies that can make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. Her designation also enhances the national visibility of her research program and reinforces FSU’s presence within the cardiovascular research community.
“As a scientist, it’s affirming to have my research recognized alongside my commitment to service and mentorship within the field,” she added.
Throughout her career, Parvatiyar has been actively involved in professional service, including peer review, conference participation, mentorship, and engagement with AHA–related activities. The fellowship builds on that foundation by connecting her with a broad network of investigators, clinicians, and scientific leaders affiliated with the AHA, which can lead to new collaborations, opportunities to present her work, and participation in national initiatives.
“It also supports my efforts to mentor trainees and junior investigators at FSU by connecting them to professional development opportunities and broader scientific networks,” she said.
The AHA is a leading international organization for cardiovascular research and education, boasting 43,000 members worldwide. AHA Fellowship is open to physicians, scientists, nurses and other healthcare professionals with a major and productive interest in cardiovascular disease and stroke.
