Program Overview
Choosing where to begin your journey in athletic training is a decision that shapes your entire career, and there is no better place to immerse yourself in the world of elite performance than Florida State University. At FSU, you won’t just learn; you will be positioned at the heart of a premier NCAA Division I athletic powerhouse, where championship culture and cutting-edge sports science converge. This unique environment provides an unparalleled backdrop for your education, preparing you for a dynamic and rewarding career in a field that is rapidly expanding. As an athletic trainer, you become an essential pillar of an athlete's success, with opportunities extending far beyond the collegiate field to professional sports, high schools, military programs, private industries, and the performing arts—ensuring that your passion for health and sport translates into a vital and respected profession. Florida State University offers a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training (B.S. 4 years).
Please note these steps to apply to the FSU B.S. Athletic Training Degree:
- Complete the pre- and co-requisite courses in order to enroll in ATR 1800-Intro to AT by the spring semester of your sophomore year (information is on page #2 of the curriculum sheet).
- Earn at least a 2.50 cumulative GPA at FSU.
- Meet with an academic advisor in Anne’s College.
Within the ATR 1800-Introduction to Athletic Training class, you will formally apply to the Athletic Training Degree and will choose one of the four pre-professional subplans to specialize in:
-
Athletic Training - clinical rotations with athletes
-
Pre-Physical Therapy - preparation for medical careers in physical therapy
-
Pre-Physician Assistant - preparation for medical careers as a physician assistant
-
Or Pre-Medicine (MD) - preparation for medical school and M.D. programs
The application portfolio includes completion of various content pieces including certifications, resumes, and interviews all contained within the course. Formal admission to the AT Degree is made at the end of the spring semester once per year. The AT Degree Program is a Specialized Admission (limited access) degree and requires a minimum of four semesters (not including summer). If you choose the AT subplan and are admitted, you will be assigned four clinical rotations with the athletes.
To become a certified athletic trainer (ATC), students would need to complete the bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training at FSU and then earn an accredited Master of Science Degree (M.S. 2 years) to be eligible to take the national Board of Certification Exam to become an ATC.
