Dr. Eric Ludwig is the Director of the Online Ed.D. program and Teaching Faculty II in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies at Florida State University. He completed his Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis from the University of Missouri in 2020. For his dissertation work, Dr. Ludwig conducted a multimodal discourse analysis in which he examined the dominant linguistic and visual discourses used to market and sell online learning at public universities in the United States.
Prior to coming to Florida State, Dr. Ludwig worked in a small technical college and a public regional university in the greater Milwaukee area. In those roles, Dr. Ludwig managed and led institutional efforts to improve online and blended education, to support and train faculty teaching at a distance, and to evaluate and maintain educational and instructional technologies. He also holds a master’s degree in Information and Learning Sciences from the University of Colorado Denver, a master’s and bachelor’s degree in German Language and Literature from the University of Missouri and the University of Michigan, respectively.
Dr. Ludwig has instructional experience across a variety of institutions, whether that be teaching entry-level German courses at the University of Missouri, teaching in a small K12 high school in central Indiana, or teaching intermediate English classes at the University of Marburg in Germany.
As for future research, Dr. Ludwig is interested in the intersections and interplay between pedagogy, technology, time, space, and labor in higher education. He draws on critical theoretical frameworks to investigate and question the discourses and realities of work and life in colleges and universities, and to explore where those discourses and realities diverge.
