Inika Williams (Career Counseling M.S./Ed.S. '14), doctoral student in Educational Leadership/Administration, was awarded a $20,000 grant to combat the disparate impact that COVID-19 has had on student learning in our local community. The Tallahassee-Leon County Nonprofit Services Grant Program provides funding to nonprofits providing services to Leon County residents impacted by COVID-19.

Terrell Williams (Higher Education M.S. '20), doctoral student in Educational Leadership/Administration, was selected to be a member of the College Board's 2021-22 Enrollment Leadership Academy, a year-long professional development program designed to cultivate the next generation of enrollment leaders. Williams currently serves as the program manager for diversity and outreach at Florida State University.

A group of Instructional Systems & Learning Technologies Ph.D. students, including Lauren Bagdy, Ömer Arslan, Hajeen Choi, and Zhichun Liu (Ph.D. '20), along with Dr. Vanessa Dennen, published an article in the Journal of Research on Technology in Education titled, "Supporting new online instructors and engaging remote learners during COVID-19: A distributed team teaching approach." This publication is based on emergency remote teaching in spring 2020 due to COVID-19.

Daeun Jung (Instructional Systems & Learning Technologies Ph.D. student), along with Dr. Vanessa Dennen and UROP students Casey Cargill and Amber Hedquist, received the outstanding paper award at the International Conference on Web Based Communities and Social Media. Their paper was titled, "Parents, social media, and online support: A systematic review of the literature."

James Hernandez (Learning & Cognition Ph.D. student) published a report entitled "Effectiveness of Early Literacy Instruction: Summary of 20 Years of Research," along with fellow FCRR researchers Sarah Herrera, Beth M. Phillips, Yi-Chieh Newton (Reading Education/Language Arts Ph.D. '13), and Jennifer L. Dombek (Elementary Education B.S. '06, Reading Education/Language Arts M.S. '08. Ph.D. '13). In the study, they reviewed 20 years of research on early literacy interventions aimed at improving language, phonological awareness, print knowledge, decoding and early writing skills for preschool students.
